The Unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S will feature a 4.2 LED screen with Sony’s “Reality Display” technology. Boosted with a 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon processor, 8.1 MP camera as well as what Sony is calling 3D and 2D sweep panorama photography. You can shoot photos or video then use HDMI out and view the content in full 3D on your HDTV. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S will also ship with many of Sony’s increasingly popular services such as Music Unlimited, and Video Unlimited for all the streaming of digital content one would ever need. Looking at it alongside the Xperia Arc S, its immediate predecessor, the Xperia S has done away with the back panel design which curves inwards along the phone’s length. It still curves outwards width-ways, so it doesn’t exactly sit flatly in the hand but it isn’t quite as contoured as theArc S. The Huawei Ascend D1 shares the same form factor as the rest of Huawei’s new ‘Diamond’ range, and can best be described as a slightly narrower and more softened take on the Samsung Galaxy S2-style slab design. This is something that works well, in our view, as the proportions and shapes are appealing to the eye. Huawei’s device has a 4.5-inch Super IPS + capacitive multi-touch LCD display with a very nice 1280×720 pixel resolution, which means it can boast a pixel density of 326 pixels-per-inch (ppi). That’s within touching distance of the iPhone 4S’s 330ppi Retina screen often used as a yardstick by which to measure others.

The result will be some excellent picture quality for viewing pictures, videos, games and web pages. It features am ever-so-slightly smaller 4.3-inch LED-backlit capacitive LCD with multi-touch support and the same resolution as the Huawei Ascend D1. That means it also sports an iPhone-beating 342ppi pixel density for some incredibly clear and sharp visual capability. Huawei’s Ascend D1 has 8GB of onboard storage space and 1GB of RAM to help things run smoothly along with a micro SD slot for cards up to 32GB. The Sony Xperia S quadruples the Ascend D1′s storage capacity, with a generous 32GB. RAM is the same at 1GB but sadly there’s no microSD slot. The back plate also flexes and the plastic flap that covers the HDMI port on the top edge isn’t exactly classy. Of course you do pay the price in weight on these partially metal handsets and by sticking largely to plastic the Arc S is indeed among the lightest phones in its class (117g). Images from the 8-megapixel built-in camera are a little variable.
