BlackBerry Z10 unlocked with OS10 Smartphone reviews

The BlackBerry Z10 heralds the rebirth of a fallen leader in the smartphone market. It’s a clean break from the past with a big touchscreen and novel OS, but the same business mentality that made it the favorite of office dwellers around the world. Except, this time BlackBerry has also added a dash of fun.

Blackberry Z10

BlackBerry’s previous generation of touch-driven smartphones felt a lot like Nokia’s early attempts to knock Symbian into shape for touchscreen. With the Z10, however, the company threw everything out and started fresh. BlackBerry 10 that powers the phone is a modern operating system with a brand new gesture-based interface and support for powerful dual-core CPUs. If you think dual-core Krait is old news on Android, you’d be right, but the Z10 is closer to the iPhone in this regard – the OS has been optimized to run on very few devices (just one right now, one more on the way), allowing for maximum efficiency.

Then BlackBerry equipped the Z10 with a 4.2″ WXGA screen – slightly bigger and sharper than the iPhone 5′s retina display – but kept the package more compact than certain massive droids. Then came all the connectivity features, hardware ports and slots.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, tri/quad-band UMTS/HSPA, optional 100 Mbps LTE
  • 4.2″ 16M-color WXGA (768 x 1280 pixels) capacitive touchscreen TFT
  • Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait, 2GB RAM, Adreno 225
  • BlackBerry 10 OS; advanced on-screen keyboard; Office document editor
  • BlackBerry Hub with extensive social networking connectivity
  • BBM with video chat and screen sharing
  • 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with face detection and Time Shift; LED flash, 2MP front facing camera
  • Full HD (1080p) video recording at 30fps; 720p recording with front-facing camera
  • 16GB storage, microSD card slot; built-in Dropbox and Box integration
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot; Wi-Fi sync
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • NFC
  • standard microUSB port, microHDMI
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • GPS receiver with A-GPS

Main disadvantages

  • Brand new UI has a steep learning curve
  • Occasional crashes and unstable behavior
  • BlackBerry World missing key apps
  • BlackBerry Maps are even worse than Apple Maps
  • Camera offers little control over image quality

As with any newborn platform, there will be growing pains – sparse app market and iffy maps for one. The biggest concern is whether the sleek new interface will put people off (both current and new BB users). It’s fast and intuitive once you get used to it, but doesn’t have the level of familiarity of the iOS or Android (which honestly took years cultivating).

That’s the mission ahead of the BlackBerry Z10. It can’t single-handedly recapture the market and bring BlackBerry to its former RIM glory, instead it sets the stage for future devices (the Q10 is a couple of months away). That’s not to say that the Z10 won’t achieve popularity – with quality hardware and software, the Z10 can easily net both people who need a BlackBerry but are tired of the aging BB OS 7 devices and new users who are equally tired of iOS and Android.

Blackberry curve 9220 reviews

The keyboard is a bit of a disappointment in terms of the tactile feedback. The keys felt a bit more stiff than we’d have liked but we’ll reserve judgement on that till we can spend some more time with the phone. it’s Running on OS 7.1 , the 9220 theoretically offers the same experience as the much higher priced BlackBerry 9900. A streamlined social experience is one of the major aspects of the update. More on this in our full review. The Curve 9220 comes in a range of colors including white , red and blue. If BlackBerry Messenger is very important for you and you are looking for a budget device , you should seriously consider the Curve 9220. A promising product , we’ll have more for you on the Curve 9220 in our review soon. It’s the same low-end 2.44-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 240, that Shayne Rana, the Tech2 reviewer who reviewed the 8520 said was “quite mundane” way back in 2009. It’s the same trackpad too, but which performs just as well on the 9220 as on any BlackBerry, making navigation a breeze. However, frills like a lit-up border for the trackpad are missing, and that’s understandable on a low-end smartphone.

The QWERTY keypad is quite good and there have been some minor changes from the 8520, including slightly larger keys and minor changes in design, which make typing on the Curve 9220 a pleasure—surely music to the ears of BBM addicts and e-mail warriors.

BlackBerry Torch 9930 Smartphone for Sprint @ $279.99

BlackBerry Torch 9850 for Sprint Reviews

BlackBerry Torch 9850

The BlackBerry Torch 9930 is RIM’s attempt to stay relevant in the eyes of Android shoppers. With a weight of 4.8 ounces and a thickness of 0.5 inches, the Torch 9930 cuts a svelte figure that’s accented by soft lines and smooth curves. When the phone is held in portrait mode, the right and left edges are rounded, but the top and bottom taper to a fairly sharp point. The Torch 9930′s rear features a single chrome strip that gently wraps around the phone’s periphery. A gray soft-touch back with a chrome BlackBerry insignia covers the majority of the Torch’s back. Pushing a small button below the door reveals the 1230 mAh lithium-ion battery, the 4GB microSD card, and a SIM card slot. Just above the door rests a 5-megapixel camera and flash. the Torch 9930 has a roomier 3.7-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480. The display was viewable even in direct sunlight. The Torch’s touch keyboard isn’t the best we’ve used. It was relatively fast, but it’s quite narrow in portrait mode, which resulted in some typos. We made fewer errors in landscape mode. the Torch 9930 features multiple screens for rapid app navigation as well as an HTML-enhanced web browser. There are also plans for NFC (Near Field Communication) support. A large clock resides at the top of the home screen above the notifications tab, the sound options, and voice search icons. A headphone jack along with the volume and mute/play/pause button resides on the right side of the 9930, in addition to a convenience button that can be used to launch an app of your choice. (By default, it’s set to launch the camera app.) The buttons are all quite thin, which normally would be a cause for concern, but their rubber coating makes them easy to press. The left side of the Torch is empty save for the microUSB port.

Today RIM announced two new additions to its lineup of Smartphone’s. The QWERTY-packing Bold 9790 and the full-touch Curve 9380 both run on BlackBerry OS 7 and feature HVGA+ (480 x 360 pixels) screens. The BlackBerry Bold 9790 comes with a 2.45″ touch screen display, a 1GHz Marvel Tavor MG1 processor, 768MB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 5 megapixel camera with VGA video capturing and a microSD card slot. The Bold 9790 is well geared connectivity-wise too – Wi-Fi, 3G with HSPA, GPS and even NFC. The compact new Bold comes with a full four-row portrait QWERTY keyboard and an optical track pad. The phone runs on the RIM’s latest BlackBerry OS 7 and will hit the stores in the following few weeks. The BlackBerry Curve 9380 is the first Curve ever to come with a touch screen. It measures 3.2″ in diagonal and, as we said, comes with HVGA+ resolution. The rest of the specs are not quite impressive though – the new Curve runs on a 806MHz processor and has 512MB RAM and 512MB internal memory expandable via the microSD slot. The connectivity package is quite good, though, featuring Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G with HSPA and NFC capabilities. The Curve 9380 does not have a physical keyboard but still keeps the optical track pad. The phone is also expected to hit the shelves in the next couple of weeks.
